The Blame Game
January 05, 2004 [General] | By anonymous 1.

Consumers are bewildered: whom to blame for bugs in Orange SPV e200: Microsoft (software vendor), HTC (hardware vendor) or Orange (the carrier that is branding and selling the phone)? In case of Symbian phones it is easy - usually the hardware vendor is to blame. However in case of Microsoft smartphones - where new business model applies: "hardware vendor is [usually] unknown and irrelevant, itīs operator, that brands the phone" - the situation is vague and users get frustrated...

Is It Our Fault Microsoft Smartphone operating system has bugs? ... says Orange - the first and the biggest (in terms of units sold) by now cellular network operator/carrier, that is selling Microsoft Smartphones. Regarding problems with Orange SPV e200 smartphone Orange writes:

It appears that this is an issue with the SPV e200 as we have replicated the problem with our e200 here. This issue will be passed on to Microsoft as we are currently looking into issues regarding this phone so that the update due early this year will address these.

In the meantime, I can only suggest that you enter any signature in the E-Mail section as this will be included in both E-Mail and Activesync (although it will not appear in the settings, it does insert it when you compose). If you need to you can change the signature once you have composed the message.

Rob Elmer from Messaging Development, Mobile Devices Product Group from Microsfot writes on the same issue in this way:

Unfortunately, this one was found and fixed after SP2003 shipped. I donīt know if there are any plans to release a QFE for it, so that a fix would be available to existing SP2003 devices, but you could pursue that with Orange. It would then be up to Orange to request that MS provide the QFE.

(QFE = Quick Fix Engineering; QFE is a Microsoft term for the delivery of individual service updates to certain products)

As you can see above the good news is, that ROM upgrade for Orange SPV e200 is coming early this year, so there is a hope that several issues that e200 still has, will be resolved by this upgrade...
