No ROM upgrade to Smartphone 2003 for Motorola MPx200 January 05, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Lately several free and commercial applications for Microsoft Smartphone, that work only in Smartphone 2003 have been released. Why only in Smartphone 2003? Because this contemporary (current) OS for Microsoft smartphones features revolutionary thing: .NET Compact Framework - a virtual machine that can run .NET programs. Unfortunately Motorola MPx200 is equipped with outdated OS: Smartphone 2002 that has no .NET support. Bad news for owners of Motorola MPx200 coming today: Motorola says, that there will be no upgrade to Smartphone 2003 for Motorola MPx200 phone: Here is the answer that one of MPx200 users (James Rainey) got from Motorola on the topic: Iīve just spoken to Mike (I.D. # 80206 / 877-331-6456 ext 2237) at 2nd Level Support for Motorola. He confirmed that Motorola has made a decision NOT to patch existing or known issues with this phone. Below is the physical address we can write to for complaints. Motorola Executive Complaints 1307 Algonquin Rd. Schaumburg, IL. 60196WHY arenīt they addressing this? Because SmartPhone 2002 development has stopped since 2003 is now the defacto standard by Microsoft. Motorola suggested people write to complain. [...] Motorola has no intention of offering a SmartPhone 2003 upgrade. Conclusions: there will be no Smartphone 2003 upgrade for Motorola MPx200 so if you want to either develop smartphone software with .NET technologies or if you wish to run .NET software in your smartphone, then Motorola MPx200 is not for you.
