New Extended MiTAC Mio8380 ROM (fixed): now MSN-Messenger and SMS work like a charm January 07, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Unfortunately by now MiTAC hasn´t been releasing any ROM updates for the MiTAC 8380 smartphone so users are helping themselves. 
We just got a notification about new ROM image available for the MiTAC 8380 smartphone, with clear notice that it is not made by a hacker, but by a programmer: This is not a "hack" it´s an EXTENSION based on the original Mitac ROM. It was done by an anonymous "PROGRAMMER", NOT A HACKER! Below we quote a description of the upgrade procedure to give you idea whether it is something for you. * * * * * 1. Update tools : UUTforCanary.exe 2. O/S Image : OEM.nb0 3. ActiveSync 4. USB Sync cable 5. PC With USB port. Update O/S Image process. 1. Please make sure that you installed ActiveSync, and it can connect your PC to Mio8380 2. Disable ActiveSync USB Support. Open your ActiveSync .. Select “ File “ Connection Settings , Don’t select “ allow USB Connection with this desktop computer. “ 3. Insert USB Sync cable to your PC 4. Push down Voice down button, and insert USB Hot Sync cable to Mio8380, Mio will reset, and login to Update mode. 5. When you login update mode, mio8380 keypad can’t to be used, you only can use voice up ( move up ) , voice down ( move down ), and record button ( action ). 6. When you want to update O/S Image, Please select “ 0=FlashROM Upgrade “ 0=Flash by USB ( Press Record button ) , System will start to count down ( from 100s to 0s ), you must finish selected OS image process before count down to 0s. 7. Please run Update tools ( UUTforCanary.exe ) from your PC. 8. Press “ OK “ to next page to select image, Please change “ Total Image Files from 2 Image Files to 1 Image file “ 9. Press Image File 1 “ Select File “ to select you new image OEM.nb0 10. After press “ OK” , The system will auto upgrade Image. Notice : Please don’t power off or Remove Hot Sync cable from Mio8380 when system upgrade Image 11. When upgrade finish, Upgrade tools will show as below message, and mio8380 will show message “ Flash Written : 100% “Then you can remove Sync cable from Mio8380. Then hard reset your Mio 8380 (Holding record button switch on Mio and wait for keypad to blink twice in Blue Color) * * * * * To download the ROM image extended (not hacked!) by an anonymous programmer click here.
