Suzan DelBene to replace Juha Christensen February 04, 2004 [General] | By anonymous 1. Since February 2, 2004, Suzan DelBene is the "president of marketing of Microsoft mobile devices group". Microsoft has 2 "arms" in the mobile devices group: marketing (leaded by Suzan DelBene) and development (leaded by Ya-Qin Zhang). Above them is Pieter Knook - who is an overall president for both mobile devices group and embedded software group. Above Pieter Knook there are only Steve Ballmer (CEO of MS) and Bill Gates (architect of MS).
Suzan DelBene, contrary to Juha Christensen (who was working for Symbian consortium before Microsoft) had no previous experiences with mobility (neither PDAs nor cellphones) - she is marketing specialist and Microsoft employed her on the principle "if you are good at marketing of one thing, you are good at marketing of another things too". Here is info about her from Nimble Technology - her previous employer: Prior to joining Nimble Technology, Inc. in January 2000, Suzan DelBene was the Vice President of Marketing and Store Development at drugstore.com. Ms. DelBene was a member of the original management team that took the company public in July 1999. Prior to joining drugstore.com in August 1998, Ms. DelBene spent nine years at Microsoft Corporation, where she held various management positions, including managing the launch and consumer marketing group for Windows 95, Director of Business Development for Internet Explorer, and Director of Marketing and Business Development for the Interactive Media Group. Ms. DelBene holds an M.B.A. from the University of Washington and a B.A. from Reed College.
