There is more to Voq than just a full-QWERTY keyboard: VoqMail - a Secure, always-there mail soution for the Voq Professional Phone announced February 13, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Unfortunately e-mail push technology in Microsoft´s Exchange 2003 is not satisfactory (it relies only on SMS to implement push), so Sierra Wireless wireless presents new solution that is better.

VoqMail offers mobile professionals an Always-there e-mail experience and provides easy-to-use, cost-efficient, and secure access to e-mail while using the Voq professional phone, the pocketable Microsoft Windows Mobile based handset from Sierra Wireless. Combined with the phone´s unique QWERTY thumbpad, VoqMail provides users with automatically updated e-mail on their Voq phones and eliminates the burden of carrying multiple mobile devices for voice, messaging, e-mail, and Internet functionality. "When we spoke to our customers about what they were looking for in a mobile solution, it was clear that they wanted one device and software solution that could deliver best-in-class mobile telephony and e-mail," said Andrew Harries, Senior Vice-President, Marketing for Sierra Wireless. "We developed VoqMail to ensure mobile professionals have the best, automatically updated e-mail solution available. For IT professionals supporting the Voq phone, VoqMail introduces significant cost savings and easy installation and management, with no additional enterprise servers or desktop redirector software to purchase, install, and maintain." The VoqMail Professional Edition includes movianVPN by Certicom, Virtual Private Network client software for secure network access, which ensures that VoqMail Professional provides secure connectivity within the subscriber´s security framework. The built-in VPN capability also supports the majority of VPN gateways. Most importantly, VoqMail does not require additional enterprise servers behind the corporate firewall, or access to a mail gateway or server on the Internet. "As enterprise employees become increasingly mobile, IT administrators are faced with the tough challenge of promoting mobile access while protecting the organisation´s assets," said Ian MacKinnon, President and Chief Executive Officer for Certicom. "The challenge of securing network access is simplified when you have a mobile device like the Voq professional phone with embedded movianVPN functionality that works seamlessly with the existing VPN infrastructure. Certicom is proud to work with Sierra Wireless in realizing our vision of integrating strong security into wireless handhelds." Secure Wireless E-mail Solution VoqMail software permits mobile professionals to send and receive their e-mail wirelessly using the Voq phone´s unique QWERTY thumbpad interface and the standard Microsoft Pocket Inbox. VoqMail will be commercially available with the Voq professional phones in two editions: * VoqMail Personal Edition - supporting ISP and carrier-hosted IMAP4 mail accounts (included at no charge with all Voq phones); and * VoqMail Professional Edition - supporting enterprise-hosted mail servers (enhanced version available as an upgrade or bundle). VoqMail Professional Edition supports e-mail delivery to and from Microsoft Exchange 2003, Microsoft Exchange 2000, and Microsoft Exchange 5.5 as well as Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise. VoqMail minimizes data overhead, ensuring fast and inexpensive delivery, while eliminating monthly fees over and above basic wireless data service costs. The Voq professional phone can also synchronise the subscriber´s contacts, tasks and calendar wirelessly with Microsoft Exchange 2003. "VoqMail gives mobile professionals and corporate IT administrators a highly secure e-mail solution that is really easy to use," said Ken Hyers, Senior Analyst, In-Stat/MDR. "Combined with the Voq professional phone, the result is a great e-mail solution and phone in one device." VoqMail´s smart configuration options make it an easy out-of-box experience. Users and IT managers are given both on-device wizard-based setup, or over-the-air configuration options for quick deployment. Subscribers can set the specific frequency for e-mail updates and may create different profiles for work time, personal time, and sleep time. Mail may therefore be retrieved for the subscriber less frequently during personal time, for example, saving on network and data charges when the need for message delivery is not as urgent. VoqMail is designed to preserve phone battery life, ensuring that the Voq professional phone is always available as a phone first. VoqMail Professional Edition also offers smart alerts that allow subscribers to set audible, visible and vibrating alerts to occur when mail arrives from specific contacts. Alerts may also be set for e-mails that are received with particular keywords in the subject line of the message. In addition, reply alerts can be created to occur when a reply to a subscriber´s e-mail is received. VoqMail will be offered through network operators, value-add reseller channels, and on-line from the Internet and is expected to be available with the Voq professional phone in the second quarter.
