FREE SSH client for Pocket PC released - PocketPuTTY February 17, 2004 [Pocket PC phone] | By anonymous 1. PuTTY is a free and incredibly good SSH client implementation for Windows. PocketPuTTY is a version of PuTTY for Pocket PC. SSH is a kind of encryption, that prevents network sniffers from stealing of passwords and other data transmitted over network. Nowadays all Unix/Linux servers doesn´t allow for remote connections with regular telnet program but require SSH! Although previously a commercial SSH client for Pocket PC was available it was however a proprietary implementation (and not porting of super-popular PuTTY program) and it was expensive. Now any user of Pocke PC 2003 (Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC) can get free SSH client in form of PocketPuTTY from here: http://pocketputty.aleq.cz/viewtopic.php?t=5 Having SSH client for Pocket PC means that owner of Pocket PC phones can access Unix/Linux servers remotely from any place. Here is some introduction about SSH: The SSH Secure Shell is a program that allows secure network services over an insecure network. SSH Secure Shell replaces other, insecure terminal applications, such as Telnet and FTP. It allows you to securely login to remote host computers, to execute commands safely on a remote computer, and to provide secure encrypted and authenticated communications between two hosts in an untrusted network. Arbitrary TCP/IP ports can also be forwarded over the secure channel, expanding SSH Secure Shell for usability even further (if needed).
