Our hope is that through the Mio 8390, mobile phone users will be able to truly sense that they can enjoy technology while on the go and use wireless to expand the frontiers of their lives." Mio Technology Corporation to focus on Mio DigiWalker™ brand operations Furthermore, in order to focus on brand development, MiTAC has established Mio Technology Corporation (see note). Mio Technology will focus on the manufacture and sales of Mio DigiWalker™ brand mobile communications devices, such as smartphones, Pocket PCs, and handheld GPS navigation systems, aggressively pursuing the market for handheld devices. Mio Technology is not only dedicated to continually innovating and providing superior price/performance handheld devices, but it will also stress timely and convenient repair services, with a 24-hour customer service center and dedicated 0800 hotline, where consumers can obtain product and usage information at any time. Mio Technology will simultaneously launch the world´s first e-marketing network, enabling consumers around the world to access Mio Technology services whenever they please. Consumers will be able to download software from different language versions of the Mio website—for example, ring tones, screen wallpapers, and icons, as well as road information such as tourist attractions, notable restaurants, and speed detection points—enhancing the quality of a user´s mobile lifestyle and allowing users to tailor their Mio device to suit individual interests and preferences. Going forward, Mio Technology will continue to strengthen development of its offerings, letting users easily obtain application software and useful information from Mio Technology´s website. In fact, the first Mio DigiWalker™ products were Microsoft OS-based Pocket PCs, and models ranging from entry-level to high-end have been released since then. For example, in 2002, MiTAC shook up the worldwide Pocket PC market with a US$299 Pocket PC, while last year it became the first vendor to offer a Pocket PC with both digital still and video photography capabilities integrated—the Mio 339—as well as the world´s first dual-slot dual-wireless model with the Mio 558. Such products firmly established MiTAC´s leadership in the global Pocket PC industry. Though less than two years have elapsed since the first product was introduced, Mio DigiWalker™ devices already account for 15% of global Pocket PC shipments. As for mobile phone products, the second half of 2002 saw the release of the world´s first Chinese-language smartphone, the Mio 8380, inaugurating a new era in smartphone development. MiTAC has also developed GPS products, launching the world´s first handheld device with a built-in GPS module for vehicular use last year—the Mio 168. Since its introduction, the Mio 168 has won acclaim from many quarters, winning an award for Best New Product in 2003 from Korea´s Hankookilbo newspaper and a Taiwan Symbol of Excellence award. The marketing of the Mio 168 represents a break from traditional sales channels, as the product is being sold at convenience stores, easing purchases by consumers, and helping the Mio 168 achieve excellent sales. Mio Technology plans to debut several new mobile phones, Pocket PCs, and GPS devices in the first half of this year, including a flip-cover mobile phone with built-in Bluetooth connectivity and dual color screens, and a new Windows CE-based handheld GPS product. Such product introductions will enable Mio Technology to extend its record of success and continue strong growth. The Mio 8390 marks a continuation of MiTAC´s sales partnership with Synnex International, Taiwan´s foremost domestic channel vendor. In addition, the new MiTAC smartphone will also be sold through the well-known TV shopping channel ET Mall, where it will be promoted as a special limited-quantity sale. Mio Technology will also continue to develop further sales avenues, enabling more consumers to more conveniently purchase Mio products. Mio Technology Corp.
