Rumor: car navigation software/solution for MS Smartphone to be presented at CeBIT 2004 March 05, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. We have tips from various sources, that such solution will emerge at this year´s CeBIT trade show. Most probably this solution will rely on MS Smartphone with built-in Bluetooth + Bluetooth GPS receiver (rather than using cable based GPS receiver). We are yet not certain which provider, vendor or operator will show such car navigation solution for Microsoft Smartphone, but one possible vendor could be this (please note: this solution apart from GPS uses GPRS connection to take into account latest traffic conditions on highways): NAVIGON relies on mobile phone navigation - focus on user-orientation Mobile navigation for Personal Digital Assistant from NAVIGON has established itself well in the past few years. On the occasion of this year´s CeBIT from 18th to 24th March, the Hamburg company relies on the smartphone trend: customised navigation solutions as well as location based services for mobile phones are presented. Operation is very simple: After the destination has been entered via the telephone keypad and sent to a server, the required route corridor is immediately received via GPRS transmission. Provided that a GPS receiver is available, each mobile phone is transformed into a navigation system by software and card download in a trice. NAVIGON transmits an adequately broadly calculated route corridor at all times which condones repeated driving errors and allows a simple orientation back to the planned route. Neither re-payment must be effected nor a new route inquiry carried out. "User-orientation and a convenient route tracing were our top priority for mobile phone navigation," explained Philipp Hess, Head of Mobile Internet, "we, therefore, spent a lot of time on development to launch a genuinely mature product." The applications are developed for manufacturers of cellular telephones, telecommunication companies or service providers. The co-operation partner MapSolute – known and proven through the "map24.de" internet portal – contributed the clearly arranged map presentation. NAVIGON is exhibiting its products at CeBIT in Hall 12, Stand B35 as well as at the partner company stands of Microsoft in Hall 4 and Navigation Technologies in Hall 27, Stand C48.
