Mapopolis Navigator for Windows Mobile Smartphone Beta released
March 10, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.

Mapopolis today announced the beta release of Mapopolis Navigator for Windows Mobile Smartphone. This release uses the same map data as Mapopolis Navigator for Pocket PC.

More information and a free download of the beta installation at www.mapopolis.com. You need an application unlocked handset to install the .cab file. Direct download link is here: http://64.208.105.215/MapopolisForSmartphone.CAB. More info about the program follows.

Mapopolis is a personal navigation system. Mapopolis allows you to view local and long-distance maps, find streets and addresses, generate turn-by-turn directions directly on your smartphone without needing a connected PC, and offers visual prompts for turns. An exciting new feature of Navigator is active route guidance in which you can miss a turn or deliberately deviate from a planned route and the program generates corrections on the fly. Multiple maps can be stored in your smartphone´s main memory, or RAM, as well on external storage devices such as SD cards and MMC cards. When adjacent maps are loaded together, they form one contiguous map. Maps can be scrolled. Some handheld models provide hard buttons that can also be used to zoom in and out and add or remove map detail. The level of zoom can be varied from a regional overview, to a city outline, to a general neighborhood, and down to a specific address. Mapopolis also includes a powerful Find feature, which allows streets, landmarks, and business locations to be searched and selected by category, name, and city. The selected item or items are then highlighted on the map. You can also search for a street address or intersection. Mapopolis´s exclusive Geomarks technology allows you to easily jump to recently used locations by selecting them from the down arrow on the toolbar or in many other menus, including the Find menu. Mapopolis Navigator is designed to be used with Global Positioning System (GPS) devices that use the NMEA protocol. It can automatically scroll and rotate the map so the GPS position is always near the center of the map, and the maps can be set to display latitude and longitude coordinates when the map is tapped. Point-to-point driving directions are generated automatically for both Navigator and Platinum maps. Starting and destination points can be entered by tapping a location on the screen, by using an address in Find, and by selecting from stored GeoMarks. Helpful Major State Road Maps allow the user to "stitch together" starting and destination maps to generate local or long-distance routes. The directions may then be viewed as a highlighted route on the map .
