Why Sony Ericsson SHOULD DUMP Symbian IMMEDIATELY and instead put Palm OS and (!) Microsoft software into their cell phones

Symbian initiative is in flux now: Nokia just completes takeover of Symbian by buying shares from Psion. If Sony Ericsson will not dump Symbian as soon as possible it may heavily endanger future of this joint-venture between Swedish Ericsson and Japanese Sony! We present reasons, why Sony Ericsson SHOULD DUMP Symbian AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (=now) ... or otherwise Sony Ericsson has no bright future:
- Sony Ericsson is a marriage of Sony (stylish design + reliable electronics) and Ericsson (good wireless hardware for cellular, Bluetooth and other wireless technologies) - these are strong points and Sony Ericsson should concentrate on these points instead of trying to play with making new software platforms - instead of fiddling when Rome burns
- Symbian already previously has been de facto controlled by Nokia, but now also formally it will be - thus Nokia will have even more of a competitive advantage of knowing earlier how to take advantage of this controlling position. Further investments of Sony Ericsson into Symbian are nothing less than shooting yourself in the foot - nothing less than free subsidies to biggest competitor - nothing less than suicide.
- Sony has a very successful line of PDA devices based on Palm OS - so it is pure nonsense and waste of synergy effect - not to extend this line with some smartphones and PDA phones
- Nokia has already previously destroyed Symbian as an open initiative by introducing their proprietary sub-platforms - Series 80, Series 60 and lately Series 90 - Nokia did this bad fracturing instead of using Symbian-only User Interface layers like UIQ (for touchscreen) ! And now Symbian introduces new UIQ (for single handed usage) what even further deepens the fracturing and makes life for developers and users even more difficult!
- Symbian platforms are weak as far as enterprise and corporate usage is concerned. Only Microsoft software for cell phones (Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC phone) can provide satisfactory solution for good integration with de facto industry standards like Microsoft Exchange server software or Microsoft Outlook groupware.
Conclusion: time is ripe for Sony Ericsson to dump Symbian and to start using Palm OS and Microsoft software in their smartphones and PDA phones instead !
