CTIA 2004 news: ThunderHawk browser service (!) available now also for MS Smartphone
March 24, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.

While other websites tell you just half-truths, we on the other side expose the stories for you: this "browser" is not what it pretends to be: a program. It is a service for which you have to pay regularly subscription fees to use it.

Bill Gates is no Jesus Christ - to express it mildly - and he also plans to introduce subscription fees - rather than one-time price - for all possible software like MS Office and MS Windows (some server products of MS already can be purchased ONLY on the subscription basis). Bill has hordes of incompetent and non-productive employees to feed (we know some names...) so he has some justification (not to mention healthy monopolistic position on the market), but what kind of nonsense is vendor of ThunderHawk pushing on us? Well, there is neither Opera browser nor NetFront browser for MS Smartphone so why not to be a little Bill Gates? More info follows.

Bitstream Announces Product Release of ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition

Mobile Browser Will Enable Wireless Carriers and Operators to Supplement Voice with Data Services

Bitstream Inc. announced today at CTIA the product release of ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition for cell and smart phones. ThunderHawk is Bitstreamīs breakthrough mobile browsing technology that lets anyone with an Internet or wireless connection browse the Web anytime, anywhere. ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition will enable wireless carriers and operators to supplement voice with up-to-date, real-time data services in a format that users are familiar with.

ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition is now available to wireless carriers and operators, as well as corporations. It will also be made available to end users in April 2004 through Bitstreamīs Web site.

"We announced the alpha version of ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition only 5 months ago at the last CTIA Wireless show. We are pleased to announce the product release today," stated Anna Chagnon, president and chief executive officer of Bitstream. "Wireless carriers now have a solution to differentiate themselves from other operators who deliver only a limited number of specialized, streamlined Web pages. Corporations can also benefit from this technology by giving mobile managers the convenience of accessing secure corporate data while on the road.

"Our SmartPhone Edition lets customers gain immediate access to the information they need in a format they instantly recognize," she continued. "SmartPhone Edition delivers the best user experience available today for browsing Web pages on cell and smart phones."

ThunderHawk SmartPhone Edition preserves actual Web page layout, making it easy to find information on the page. In addition, ThunderHawk enables users to read a column of text without forcing them to scroll left and right as they read each line. Split screen mode lets users easily skim information and quickly find their orientation on a Web page. The upper half of the split screen shows the entire page, while the lower half displays the selected area at full size. Full screen mode displays a section of the page at full size.

With its support for open HTML standards, including CSS and DHTML, and security protocols, such as SSL and 128-bit encryption, ThunderHawk allows wireless carriers to provide complete Web browsing to their customers.
