New helper program for Windows XP : SmartPhone T9 Editor
March 25, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.

Rebooting your smartphone and lost words that T9 learned from you? Dumping old Smartphone made by HTC and buying new one from Motorola? Your smartphone was eaten by a crocodile and now all words that your T9 learned are lost? You find it difficult to learn T9 engine new words? Well, worry no more: SmartPhone T9 Editor:

... is available now for free and solves some of these problems. What it does? In directory "\IPSM\Application Data\Syste" (Smartphone 2002) or "\Storage\Application Data\Syste" (Smartphone 2003) there is a file "mst9.udb" that contains definitions of words that T9 engine learns while user is using T9 text entry (these are words that are not available in the built-in dictionary of T9 engine). By now this file could be lost and whole learning process would have to start again. Also entering new words was cumbersome - not any more! Now with SmartPhone T9 Editor you can comfortably edit words for T9 at your PC with full size keyboard. Just copy the "mst9.udb" from above mentioned directory in Smartphone to PC and open it with the SmartPhone T9 Editor!

What the heck is T9?

T9 Text Input, also commonly referred to as "predictive text input," allows users to quickly and easily enter text on a mobile phone. Requiring just one key-press per letter, T9 technology enables you to perform common tasks such as e-mail, text messaging, mobile instant messaging, entering calendar information and more.

T9 Text Input Features:
  • Easy and fast text entry
  • Just one key press per letter
  • Nearly twice as fast as "multi-tap" text entry
  • Ability to add custom words to your T9 dictionary
  • Full punctuation and symbol capabilities
  • Available in all major languages
OK, nice definition wise guys, but how does it work? Well, it works so that by holding down "*" key you set "T9" in the upper right corner of the smartphone. Letīs say that you want to enter the word "cat" in T9. You do it in this way that you type "228" and the first proposal appears: "Act", but you donīt like it, so you press "0" and next proposal appears: "Cat". Now press space (on "#" key) and you can continue the same way with other words.

Important notice: this program requires that you have .NET Framework installed on your PC. Please ensure that you have it installed before running the program. .NET Framework is something like J@va Virtual Machine but for .NET programs, and despite the fact that it is pure Microsoftīs technology it is still (yet) not available as a standard part of Microsoft Windows, but as a separate package.
