Printing for Windows Mobile SmartPhone: SmartPhonePrint beta available... free BETA version available for download NOW
March 29, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1.

If you have an unlocked Smartphone and one of many supported Bluetooth or Infrared printers, you can test beta release of SmartPhonePrint to print PIM data: email, contacts, tasks, calendars.

Built-in support for many printers, including:
- HP PCL3 compatible - most DeskJet & LaserJet printers, including HP 450cbi & 350cbi
- Canon compatible printers, including i70/i80, BJC-50/55/80/85
- Epson Stylus, ESC/P2, and 24-pin LQ compatible printers
- Brother mPRINT
- Citizen PD-22, PD-04 & CMP-10
- CUSTOM s´print
- Extech Thermal
- O´Neil MicroFlash Thermal
- Pentax PocketJet 200 and PocketJet II
- Seiko DPU-3445 & MPU-L465
- Zebra Cameo, Encore & QL (CPL-compatible printers)

Most interesting feature of this program is however, in our opinion, the ability to print over Bluetooth:

Bluetooth Printing: In order to print using a Bluetooth (BT) connection, your SmartPhone will need to find (or "discover") the BT printer and select it for printing. Some SmartPhones will use SmartPhonePrint´s "Bluetooth" port selection.

When you set Port=Bluetooth and try to start printing, you will see the Bluetooth Search window (below left) as SmartPhonePrint searches for your BT printer. If you have previously found BT devices, you will see the Bluetooth Browser screen (below middle). If the desired printer is not on this list, turn on the printer and select Options->Bluetooth Search to do a fresh search for the printer. To see a BT device´s full device name and BT address by selecting Options->Device Info (below right).

Once you see the printer in the Bluetooth Browser list, scroll to it and click Go to start printing. Note that once you have successfully used the Bluetooth Browser to find your printer and print, you can set Port = Bluetooth: Quick Print to skip the Bluetooth Browser step in the future. If you change BT printers, you will need to go back to Port=Bluetooth to find and select the new printer.

If you have a BT phone but the "Bluetooth" port selection does not work, you will need to see if your SmartPhone´s BT manager has an ability to find printers and assign them to specific serial port (COM1-COM9). Then you will set SmartPhonePrint´s Port setting to the correct COMx.
