TechEd 2004 Europe coverage : TomTom GPS car navigation software for Microsoft Smartphone - debunking the myths June 30, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. TomTom GPS car navigation software for Microsoft Smartphone will be available since September 2004. Here we present information directly from TomTom company, inucluding photos of employees and several screenshots of a version of this program for Microsoft Smartphone. We were just talking to TomTom company (nomen omen a company located and originated from Netherlands - where the TechEd conference takes places). We were talking to this guy from TomTom:
... which is, as you can see, more a markting type, and to this guy from TomTom (more a technical type):
TomTom company was presenting only a DEMO VERSION, i.e. such version that doesn't connect to GPS at all, but just is "playing back" some screens - as if you would be drivin by car and see some roads. We learned also that TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone will have the same user interface as TomTom for Palm, not the same however as TomTom for Pocket PC! Conclusion: TomTom company has no Microsoft Smartphone software for GPS based car navigation YET. No working version yet! They have just a demo version that "plays back" some maps, and is not working, not connecting to GPS receiver. They are working on it, alright, and according to what they say it will be ready in September 2004.
