Major changes upcoming at Handango - the mobile software shop
July 29, 2004 [General] | By anonymous 1.

Handango prepares some major changes both to developers and to regular users of this mobile software shop! While Handango is touting these changes as significant, we think that they are rather cosmetic in nature and a lame attempt to satisfy the very bad behavior of Handango, that lately raised amount of money that it takes away from developers (now it is 40 to 50 percent that Handango steals from developers). Handango is being slammed by us for a reason therefore...

Dear Developers:

I'm writing with exciting news and an important request! We are preparing to launch a new version of Handango next week. Besides a new look and feel, the major difference is that we present customers with the option to shop for software by choosing their device model first. Because of this, IT IS ESSENTIAL that each of your software applications have the appropriate Compatible Devices selected in your developer account.

If you do not have any Compatible Devices selected, your applications WILL NOT SHOW UP when a customer uses this "shop by device" functionality (and we expect most of them to do so). We have added some new devices recently (including new Dell Axims and Sierra Voq) and will be adding more today and tomorrow.

You can preview the new site at http://www.handango.com/handango2004.

This new design is a result of months of work and literally years of listening to customers. We hope you find the new design faster and easier to use. Some of the major changes include:

-- A snappy new look & feel!
-- Ability to shop by device using device images
-- New personalized homepage presents only relevant content
-- Ability to create homepages for each device you own
-- Improved, fly-out navigation menus
-- Enhanced search offers suggestions for spelling & product names
-- More featured products & recommendations on each page
-- New member account branding and layout

It is now more important than ever for you to update the compatible devices for your products. Please make sure this list is complete and accurate. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to working with you well into the future.

Best regards,
Clint Patterson
VP, Marketing
Handango

P.S. Also, please make sure you have accurate CATEGORIES selected for each of your titles and have chosen the deepest level category in the tree. Our new fly-out navigation structure allows customers to drill all the way down into a category in one click!

P.P.S. If you're wondering what's going to happen with featured products, currently scheduled features will be given the same value in the new structure. In addition, we will be sending you the new pricing structure for features next week.
