Motorola MPx220 is inferior technologically to Orange SPV C500 (Qtek 8010, i-mate Smartphone 3, etc) August 15, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. In next 1-2 months 2 great little phones powered by Microsoft Smartphone software are coming: Orange SPV C500 (also known as Qtek 8010, i-mate Smartphone 3, Dopod 565, etc) and Motorola MPx220. Previously we presented feature by feature comparison between Motorola MPx220 and Orange SPV C500, but we have forgotten to mention one essential difference, between these 2 phones that can blow away whole comparison and make the SPV C500 a total winner! Read on...
We just got information that C500 has better, faster, memory, than MPx220 what makes it much faster: The C500 is M-Systems DiskOnChip Multilevel Cell NAND flash based and the Motorola MPx220 is Multilevel Cell NOR flash based, which means the C500 is a LOT faster, particularly on multimedia applications (NAND is the same material used in removable cards - like secure digital or compactflash, while NOR is the type of material used in 2G handsets and BIOS chips - slooooow programing time). For a detailed review of NOR vs. NAND technologies - see here: http://www.m-systems.com/m-sysnew/files/documentation/doc/nor_vs_nand.pdf Conclusion: Motorola MPx220 has slower memory and with the same processor as C500 it makes it a slower and inferior technologically phone. Which Microsoft smartphone to buy? Well, more and more reasons speak for Orange SPV C500 or Qtek 8010 or i-mate Smartphone 3 or whatever it is branded as.... rather than Motorola MPx220. However we kindlly ask you to study the comparison of these phones and to read all other possible information the web, before you will take the final decision!
