New version of Pocket TV - video player for Microsoft Smartphone - released August 21, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Now it is faster and allows for scaling of video when playing in full scren mode. Latest Microsoft Smartphone phones like Orange SPV C500 offer much bigger processor speed so MP3 and video playback with these fancy phones is a wholly new and more pleasant experience. Pocket TV program can make it even more pleasant...
We have released a new and much faster version of PocketTV Classic (free MPEG movie player for Smartphone). You can get your free copy from www.pockettv.com. The new version is capable of scaling the video when playing fullscreen (the old one could not), and the scaling routine much faster even when playing in normal, portrait orientation. Performance gain (when the video is scaled) is up to 300-500%! Check out this MPEG Guide to convert videos and DVD's into MPEG for Smartphone: http://forum.pocketmovies.net/viewtopic.php?p=3415#3415. If you have a Smartphone on which this new PocketTV does not work, please let us know and will try to fix it. The last update of PocketTV (0.12.2) was released 6 months ago, so if you want to know the details, please read the release notes at www.pockettv.com/release-notes.html. If you have never used PocketTV, it plays MPEG-1 files (extension .mpg or .mpeg). You will get better performances with files that are made with parameters optimized for Smartphone (see Guide above). Correctly encoded MPEG files are 1.5 to 2 times larger than DivX files for the same quality and resolution, so DivX files take less memory, but many people like using MPEG for various reasons. The PocketTV User Interface on Smartphone is very simple and intuitive, and most common functions are mapped on some buttons. The "OK" button switches between Portrait and Landscape, "0" switches between "Fit Screen" and "Nominal Size", UP/DOWN control the brightness, RIGHT/LEFT seeks back and forth in the file, VOLUME +/- control the volume, "9" capture an image to email it to a friend, etc. You can naturally customize the button "Hot Key" functions. There is a full Help, too, available from the PocketTV Menu.
