HP iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC phone is already on sale in USA but performance tests show that it is very slow August 24, 2004 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Officially HP iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC phone should be released and available commercially in the first half of September 2004, but CompUSA - a retailer in USA - is already sellling them (price point: around 600 USD)! So we must admit: the first ever in the world cell phone with built-in Wi-Fi and built-in Bluetooth is HP iPAQ ! Even upcoming Nokia Communicator with built-in Wi-Fi has been thus beaten as far as "time-to-market" is concerned! The other Pocket PC phone vendors (HTC with MDA III, Motorola wiht MPx) are late - are second! Now, that some users already purchased their h6315 at CompUSA, we have first impressions from usage of production units, not just prototypes, not just engineering samples: Actually the battery life of this Pocket PC phone is very good but it is very slow (processor speed just: 168 MHz), has display of poor quality (a bit yellowish) and no built-in keyboard. It is also not running latest operating system (Second Edition) and policy of HP is not to make upgrades to Second Edition available... but if processing speed is not critical for you, and battery life is important then HP iPAQ phone may be interesting proposition for you, particularly because it is about 300 USD cheaper than Pocket PC phones with Wi-Fi from HTC or Motorola...
