Hardware review : HP iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC phone August 24, 2004 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Now, that many Americans already have purchased the HP iPAQ h6315 Pocket PC at CompUSA - the shop that started selling it ahead of official launch - everal reviews of this first cell phone with built-in Wi-Fi are poping up, and these are production units, not some prototypes!
One of the most interesting is this one: Also HP should have included a backlight keyboard for times when I try to type in the dark or low light areas. The other problem with the keyboard is the caps lock. You do not get an icon when it on and it difficult to turn it back off. I had to soft reset my device before it would turn off. So HP here is the first thing you need to fix. Lastly, the speed of the WiFi connections are very slow. this device includes both Bluetooth and WiFi (802.11b). And to give it that much more kick it also has built-in GSM/GPRS radio’s. You would think with all those radio’s that battery life would be about 2 hours. In my non scientific testing I found I can get at least 8 hours of use out of one charge. To read this review, including several screen shots, click here. Please note: the HP iPAQ h6315 that is being sold at CompUSA is SIM-locked to T-Mobile USA network. Web page of this phone at CompUSA is here (for use in the continental US only) or here (for use in Hawaii only) - it is available not just "online for (pre)ordering" but you can just visit your local CompUSA store and pick the device yourself! The price is $600, what is about $300 less than this, what Motorola MPx and XDA 3 - another Pocket PC phones with built-in Wi-Fi - will cost...
