Editorial: critical mass reached, mission accomplished, time to close the website?
September 01, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Announcement of Opera to support Microsoft Smartphone platform marks major milestone in the history of Microsoft powered cell phones - moment when these phones become mainstream of cell phone industry - history that we were following since 2002 - year when Microsoft make the deciding step and released commercially, with help of partners, first Microsoft Smartphone powered cell phones.

Orange SPV C500 - the smallest Microsoft Smartphone in the world - is on sale now in several countries in Europe and it will be sold under other names worlwide soon. Motorola MPx220 is coming next month and super fascinating Pocket PC phones equipped also in built-in Wi-Fi are coming. Winter 2004/2005 will be a time when Microsoft powered cell phones will reach critical mass, and will start taking market share away from Symbian (company fully controlled by Nokia). Several Microsoft's hardware partners have some fascinating phones in pipeline (how about Microsoft Smartphone with display in QVGA resolution and built-in Wi-Fi?) and we will observe some very cool cell phones powered by Microsoft's software...

The situation about which we were dreaming for years is coming true. Since many our targets are achieved or close to completion, should we close the website and devote our time to other activities? No! Now we are activating phase 2: to lead to the situation when having Microsoft cell phone (Microsoft Smartphone or Pocket PC phone) will become "a must"! It's like with Linux: sure, you can install it on your PC and use it as your primary operating system, but practically speaking for many people it is impractical and they lose possibility to run certain programs and services that are exclusively available for Microsoft Windows.

How are we going to assure success of phase 2? Well, we will not reveal all things that are underway, but suffice to say, that people who will not own Microsoft powered cell phones will be slowly starting to resent it, and they will start feeling an unstoppable urge, for them to get such a phone... yeah, we know all the dirty tricks of the main competitor of Microsoft - Nokia (corporation that controls Symbian like puppeteer controls a puppet, corporation that hinders free development of cell phone industry), and we know very well all the strengths of Microsoft, and believe us, we will stop of nothing, than total victory, we will stop of nothing short of taking maximal advantage of all possible ways to popularize maximally Microsoft cell phones, to make them a "must have".

You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet. Phase 2 is underway (yet behind the scenes, but watch this space) ....

Business is War and the Wordwide Smartphone War 2 has just begun.
