Release of TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone imminent + first mini-review of it available
September 07, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Well, we have seen preview of TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone in Amsterdam, during TechEd Europe 2004 conference:

TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone

... but now it looks like TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone will become available commercially very very soon: what is new is that TomTom for Microsoft Smartphone has been added to TomTom's site and a mini-review of it is available:

All of the features present on these versions are back and the good news is that TomTom has been able to preserve the speedy and responsive user interface, that makes for pleasant operation.

Since the navigation platform is common, it's likely that the "POI import and Alert" update for the GO (see the article on PocketGPS UK) will make it to the mobile version as well. TomTom Mobile will only work in conjunction with the TomTom Wireless Bluetooth GPS. The complete kit that also includes an MMC (256Mb probably) memory card is announced at 299 euros. Hopefully it will make it to the US at some point in time.

Related links: Conclusion: by now users of MS Smartphone living in USA and rich part of Europe could use only Mapopolis as navigation software for use with GPS. Althought TomTom is 3 times more expensive it brings however some more features, including 3D perspective, and therefore it may be worth considering. Since Mapopolis is American company (located in USA) and TomTom is European company (located in Netherlands, EU), probably TomTom would be better suited for users in Europe and Mapopolis would be better suited for users in USA - although both offer maps for both continents. However we advise you to read reviews of boths these programs very accurately before taking buying decision!!!
