Hardware review : T-Mobile SDA - most popular German magazine about communications reviews first Microsoft Smartphone from T-Mobile September 17, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. "Connect" is the biggest paper (!) magazine about communications in Europe. Yes, it is in German language but it is sold in all 3 German speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and also in other countries... T-Mobile Germany provided "Connect" with a T-Mobile SDA phone for testing. In this story we present some higlights from this review. Interestingly, apart from VGA only (not megapixel) camera, as a main disadvantage of T-Mobile SDA the "Connect" magazine mentions lack of possibility to send photos and video recordings over Bluetooth and infrared and says that it is possible to send them only over MMS or e-mail:
... what is however totally wrong, because with FREE additional software it is indeed possible! "Connect" is known from presenting Nokia in overly positive light and from being anti-Microsoft - they even presented SD card slot as a disadvantage in Qtek 8080 smartphone! (although actually SD card slot is superior to MMC slot, becaue it can accept both SD and MMC cards and offers bigger transfer speeds) This bias of "Connect" may be also a reason, why some of their remarks about "T-Mobile SDA" are simply factually wrong... Another main revelation from this review is this: yet in November 2004 a T-Mobile SDA without camera will be available! So that users who are not allowed to enter premises of some companies with camera phones, can also enjoy benefits of a Microsoft Smartphone from T-Mobile! Here are some other highlights from the review:
Conclusion: actually the only real disadvantage of "T-Mobile SDA" that this so strongly pro-Nokia magazine could find is the camera of low resolution and low quality. Apart from the camera it looks like this phone is perfect and particularly the upcoming "T-Mobile SDA Music" version of this phone may really be a hit - after all T-Mobile is very interested in popularization of its own wireless music download service...
