HTC roundup October 02, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R. High Tech Computer (HTC) is a corporation located in Taiwan that produces PDAs and cell phones for other vendors - they produce devices for various platforms - including Palm and Linux. However their biggest success are Windows Mobile powered devices - Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone Edition cell phones. A local Taiwanese publication has just published a cute roundup of information about all Windows Mobile cell phones that HTC has ever been producing. Sincerely speaking we must say, that the first Pocket PC phone made by HTC that is worthwhile is i-mate JAM also known as "T-Mobile MDA Compact" and the first MS Smartphone made by HTC, that is worthwile is Orange SPV C500 also known as i-mate SP3. All previous models of cell phones made by HTC were bulky, very slow and had short battery life - technologically speaking: disaster. It looks like however, that with the latest generation of devices HTC has made a quantum leap and it can contribute a lot to victory of Windows Mobile over Symbian... For the smartphone line, HTC launched the “HTC Canary” and “HTC Tanager” in 2002, the “HTC Voyager” in 2003 and the “HTC Typhoon” this year. These models were sold under famous brand names in different regions, including the Orange SPV series in Europe, the Qtek series in New Zealand, the i-Mate in Australia and the Dopod in China. The recently launched “HTC Typhoon” smartphone, known as the Orange SPV-C500, is the company’s smallest and lightest model to date, according to the company. In addition, the company will introduce the “Feeler” smartphone, and agreements with T-Mobile Germany (with the brand name of SDA) and Australia-based i-Mate (with the brand name of SP3i) have been finalized for the marketing of the product. Please note: while this overview is nice it is not complete - it does not mention i-mate JAM aka T-Mobile MDA Compact and it doesn't explain the difference between i-mate SP3 and i-mate SP3i ...
