Destinator navigation software is very well known in Europe and appreciated for having brilliant features, so it is great news that it is now availble also for Microsoft Smartphone. More informaiton from Destinator Europe follows. * * * * * Destinator SP - Navigation for Smartphones announced at Systems in Munich and SMAU in Milano There is now a solution for all those who haven't been able to warm to the idea of a PDA or built-in navigation system. It requires no additional equipment and is relatively unbeatable in terms of mobility: Navigation via mobile phone. Your Microsoft Windows based cell phone becomes a fully-fledged mobile navigation system with our newest intelligent on-board navigation system, Destinator SP (Smart Phone). Getting there has never been easier - irrespective of whether by car, motorbike, bicycle or even on foot. The precise location is calculated by a continuous evaluation of the GPS data received via cable or Bluetooth from the attached GPS antenna. The Destinator SP navigation software and the up-to-date map data (Q2/2004) are installed via the memory card provided (SD, MiniSD, MMC or RC-MMC dependent on mobile phone type). The system is delivered with the latest maps (e.g. Germany), can be virtually extended as the user requires and is ready to use on delivery. The route calculation occurs on the mobile phone. No further costs are incurred as is the case with off-board mobile phone solutions. The calculated routes can be displayed in 2D, 3D or practical step-by-step pictograms (optimised for smart phone screens). The audio guidance which complements the visual directions is available in various languages and allows the driver to remain fully concentrated. Destinator SP very quickly calculates an alternate route should you leave the suggested route, thus allowing you to react calmly and quickly to traffic delays. Apart from the tried and tested basic navigational functions, Destinator SP has additional functions at its disposal which fully bring the advantages of the mobile phone to bear. It is possible, for example, to send a text message showing your exact location to another mobile phone where it can be immediately used for precise navigation. Should the recipient not have Destinator SP, however, the text message will still show the geo-data. As a result, complicated route and vague location descriptions are a thing of the past. In addition, Destinator SP also offers a security feature which has been, to-date, limited to expensive telematics solutions: A text message sent via Destinator SP to, for example, an automobile club would show the exact location and allow quick and efficient assistance. As a result Destinator SP substantially contributes to shortening the rescue and recovery time after an accident or breakdown. Destinator SP will be available shortly and currently supports the following mobile phone models: Qtek 8080, Qtek 8010, Qtek 8020, Orange SPVE200, Mitac 8310 and Motorola MPX220; other Microsoft Smartphone models can be used for navigation with Destinator SP after adjusting the GPS settings in the appilicable settings menue.
