The Force is Strong in This One (?) : Pocket PC Summit 2004 features Smartphone Solutions gig sponsored by Nokia - the evil empire itself October 23, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R. On October 25-27, 2004 in San Francisco, CA, USA, a major wireless trade show will take place: CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment. Alongside CTIA WIRELESS, as usual, also Pocket PC Summit - a small side trade show organized by an extremely biased Pocket PC Magazine takes place. Interestingly this year Pocket PC Summit accepted money from Nokia:
With a special section this year featuring Smartphone technology and solutions there will be no better place to be than at the Enterprise Mobility Pavilion, located in the prime entrance floor area. The Pavilion is open to all platforms of wireless technology including Microsoft, Palm, Symbian, Linux, RIM, and all their related hardware, software and accessories. If you are in USA and interested in learning more about latest developments in Windows Mobile you may consider visiting Pocket PC Summit! To learn more about it click here. It is starting in 2 days already! Conclusions: it looks like Microsoft turns away from Pocket PC Summit, effectively abandoning it, and its organizers Pocket PC Magazine if it has to accept money from Nokia to survive! Anyway the name "Pocket PC" increasingly becomes less relevant and doesn't cover all Windows Mobile devices and developments - like Microsoft Smartphone (Microsoft predicts that in 2-3 years smartphones will constitute 75% of all Windows Mobile devices) and Portable Media Centers (video players with built-in hard disk)...
