Cheap publicity trick, not a real help for developers: Pocket PC Magazine Best Software Awards 2004 October 24, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R. In 2 days, on October 26, 2004, winners of Pocket PC Magazine Best Software Awards 2004 will be announced. The "best" software programs for Pocket PC and Microsoft Smartphone will be announced then. Not only Pocket PC Magazine in cooperation with Handango are stealing software from developers (downloading full version of commercial software for free without consent of developers hardly can be named otherwise), but also the Pocket PC Magazine, and its boss Hal Goldstein are fooling many developers into cheap publicity trick: developers who are finalists (i.e. among top 2-3 possible winners) are obliged to put special logos of PocketPC Magazine with links to website of this company - on their websites. In this way Pocket PC Magzine deceives developers into providing free publicity to this publication. Finalists who fail to complay and don't put logo of Pocket PC Magzine are then excluded from possibility to become winners! Since judges of this Awards are also webmasters of various Windows Mobile websites, nobody, apart from us, dares to reveal all these dirty machinations of Pocket PC Magazine and its boss Hal Goldstein. Pocket PC Magazine is being published by Thaddeus Computing, that has just passed 20th year of operation. Officially Pocket PC Magazine is speaking about "win-win relationships with developers" but in reality it is bullying developers into free publicity stunt and is also, indirectly, forcing various webmasters, who serve as judges, to keep mum about various machinations. Shame on you, Hal Goldstein, Jim Karpen and Nitin Gupta ! Microsoft should cease any business relationship with Pocket PC Magazine because it clearly is not serving Windows Mobile community but rather private dirty interests of a couple of people from Thaddeus Computing - a small business company from USA.
