Mitac ran out of patience with Sagem and released this model itself : Mio 8870 November 01, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. We were the first news source in the world, that has found out that Sagem myS-7 in fact is nothing more than a Sagem branded Mitac phone:
And our suspicion was then confirmed by president of Mitac, whom we were interviewing just 1-2 days after Sagem presented myS-7! Now, after several months, the final confirmation is availble: Mio Technology (full subsidiary of Mitac), after seeing that Sagem is trying to sell Sagem myS-7 smartphone without success, decided to release this phone under its own brand - Mio 8870 and in a more attractive color - black:
Unfortunately it is a shame that Mio Technology (i.e. Mitac) dares to release new Microsoft Smartphone without Bluetooth ! Yes! This phone doesn't have Bluetooth and thus when compared to HTC-made phones (like Orange C500 or i-mate SP3, T-Mobile SDA, etc) it has absolutely no chances whatsoever: contrary to Motorola MPx220 that is more of a top notch, the HTC made phones are cheap, super fast and feature Bluetooth. When we were chatting with Francis T. Tsai :
(Francis T. Tsai - Corporate President of Mitac - company that owns Mio Technology - holds in his hand Mio 8860 - the yet unreleaed MS Smartphone) ... we were underlining the need to offer Wi-Fi in form of SDIO cards for Microsoft Smartphone but we didn't mention Bluetooth - we simply thought that it is so obvious, that Bluetooth is a "must". Apparently it is not: Mitac still doesn't get it, and doesn't understand, that nowadays Bluetooth is a must, because people need it for Bluetooth headsets in cars (hands free driving is required by law in several countries) and for Bleutooth GPS receivers. Mitac pays high price for this lack of understanding: very small market share in smartphone market. Actually without the Mitac's Pocket PC with built-in GPS - that is a hit - Mitac could well close the "Mio Technology" division and nobody would take a notice ... unfortunately market success of Mitac's Pocket PC with built-in GPS spoiled Mitac badly and they doesn't matter in Microsoft smartphone market: only HTC phones (under various brand names) and Motorola phones (MPx220 and upcoming EDGE version of MPx220) are worthwhile.
