GMail gets POP3 - good news for Windows Mobile powered devices November 11, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R. This is great news for Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC phone owners... because now they will be able to read GMail directly in their devices! By now GMail didn't offer possibility to access in different way than by using a PC computer. There was no access through POP3 or IMAP. Now Google decided to start offering it - at first only for some users (not all GMail users) - but it is restricted only to POP3, there is no access through IMAP. Also posting is possible through Google-provided SMTP server (but with SSL authentification). You can retrieve your Gmail messages with a client or device that supports POP, like Microsoft Outlook or Netscape Mail. To learn more click here. Credit: pixelboy
