Neonode scam continues: N1 is on sale in EU November 16, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R. We have just received an e-mail from Neonode company, that their phone is available now. However we would like to warn you: DO NOT BUY Neonode N1, NEVER EVER! It is a scam!
Why ? Because this cellphone, although also powered by Windows CE from Microsoft, delivers much much less features and possibilities than both Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC Phone Edition. Actually it provides less features than MS Smartphone but is as expensive as Pocket PC phone (as i-mate JAM, that provides much more features). Here is the e-mail from Neonode: Hi! We are proud to introduce the Neonode N1 in your country now. Since you were among the first to show an interest, we give you some time to buy the N1 before we send out the press releases about our web shop opening later this week. You won't find the N1 at regular retailers. There is always a possibility to wait until we inform the press, but this also means risking longer delivery times and, how fun is that ;-)? During the time you have waited, we have updated the N1. Now, for a limited time, we have a special offer! If you buy the N1 today, you will get 512 MB memory, the Eclipse game and shipping in Europe included! Take the opportunity and order YOUR N1 now at: http://www.neonode.com Cheers, The Neonode Crew Conclusions: there is no point in buying Neonode N1 because it is a non-standard platform, more expensive than MS Smartphone, costs the same as superb mini-Pocket PC phone (HTC Magician), and a platform that not only from the point of view of software, but also from the point of view of hardware is in many respects inferior to both MS Smartphone and Pocket PC phone. For the price of Neonode N1 one can get for example i-mate JAM / MDA Compact / Qtek S100 phone (i.e. HTC Magician) that has 20 000 programs available for it (i.e. Pocket PC platform), has megapixel camera (Neonode N1 has only VGA = 0.3 megapixel camera) and with all possible respects is better than N1! If you buy Neonode N1 you are then stuck with an outdated hardware and with non-standard software. N1 makes no sense. It is a scam. Don't buy it.
