Audio interview with Jon Asmussen and Kemp Mullaney from AvantGo (Sybase USA)

On the occasion of a release of AvantGo 2005 Beta - totally new version of AvantGo client and service, we have been chatting with Jon Asmussen and Kemp Mullaney from Sybase USA - provider of AvantGo service:



Apart from summary of this chat, we provide also audio recording of this interview in MP3 format. In this interview Jon and Kemp were talking not only about AvantGo 2005 Beta but they also answered some fascinating questions releated to AvantGo service (you must listen to the audio recording to get them - we haven't placed everything in the text of this news item). Here are the highlights of this interview:

  • Jon was presenting, through remote display, how AvantGo Beta 2005 works in a live Pocket PC device connected to a network
  • AvantGo 2005 Beta has totally different looks - to see overview and 3 screenshots click here (a very big image of high resolution) - shortly speaking: small-screen optimized navigation designed to maintain ease of use.
  • generally speaking the new things are:
    • AvantGo client has its own Internet browser with DHTML support - it no longer uses IE
    • looks and GUI are different - now it features tabs
    • several more features have been added (some very few are mentioned below)
  • user can customize outlining structure of AvantGo channels:


  • user can select which AvantGo channels should be synchronized wiressly (not off-line through synchronization with PC; previously: it was either all or none):


  • wireless enhancements make syncing content anytime, anywhere - easy and efficient:
    • abbreviate sync times and minimize wireless costs by selecting channels to be synced
    • browse and search all 1200+ AvantGo channels while connected
    • surf the webusing AvantGo - from a new section on the AvantGo homepage

Update from Mike Klobuchar (AvantGo/iAnywhere Technical Support Manager, iAnywhere Solutions, a Sybase Company): You had question that was in regards to how to block AvantGo servers from accessing a website. If/when a webmaster contacts AvantGo asking us not to get information from their website or domain, we enter them into the system and we will cease from accessing their content.
