SPV-Developers - new portal for developers and all fans of HTC made smartphones, who like to tweak
December 10, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.
It is not only a discussion forum but also a repository of information and programs - utilities - that allow users to tweak and research their Microsoft Smartphones.
The name of this portal is SPV-Developers and it is similar in concept as, already famous, XDA-developers.com. While the second is focused on HTC made Pocket PC phones (PDA phones) the first is only about smartphones made by HTC.
Here are things that fans of smartphones, who like to research and tweak them, can find at SPV-Developers portal:
- Developer tools
- Tool - GUI utillity to view and edit the content of RUU NBF packages
- Developer Research
- TyphoonNbfFormat - An attempt to decode the format of Typhoon NBF ROM updates
- TyphoonFlashing - Reverse engineering the C500 ROM update tool
- TyphoonRomLayout - Examining the layout of the C500 ROM
- Developer Community : Discussion of smartphone reverse engineering and development
Conclusion: with Microsoft powered cell phones one can not only have fun while using them, but also those who like tweaking, reverse engineering and deeper research of their devices, are also very satisfied! Contrary to Symbian phones, that in most cases don't offer possibility of ROM upgrades, the Windows Mobile cell phones are getting ROM upgrades from operators and distributors from time to time. And with help of various tools it is possible to tweak these ROM images to get some effects not originally designed into operating system. Fascinating!
