New version of ActiveSync released: 3.8 January 07, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. Microsoft's ActiveSync, that works both for Pocket PC and Microsoft Smartphone, constitutes one of the most important competetive advantages of Windows Mobile phones over Symbian: it makes PC-phone synchronization a bliss (it is still a nightmare in case of Symbian phones) and not only allows for synchronizations of files, e-mails and calendar events, but has several other features too like plug-ins (to synchronize AvantGo, SMS, etc), Internet passthrough (so user of Windows Mobile phone can use Internet connection of PC to access Internet) and a bridge between PC applications and a mobile devices, so that PC applications can call remotely, from PC, functions on the device. It is good to know that Microsoft is commited to continuous development and progress of ActiveSync and has just released new version 3.8 (the next version of Windows Mobile: Windows Mobile 2005 alias Magneto will feature ActiveSync 4.0, so this version is by no means final): Microsoft ActiveSync 3.8 is the latest synchronization software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and Smartphones. ActiveSync 3.8 contains fixes making synchronization more trouble free than ever before and includes all the significant improvements brought to you in ActiveSync 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7.1: it is easy to install and use while offering the best levels of reliability. To download ActiveSync 3.8 (for free of course) click here. We have tested new ActiveSync 3.8 in various configurations and it works perfectly. You can install it over existing installation of ActiveSync 3.7 (or earlier) without the need to remove it - we have tested it too.
