Vodafone VPA IV - the first Pocket PC phone for UMTS (3G with WCDMA radio interface) - coming soon February 01, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Existing Pocket PC phones are either working with GSM/GPRS networks (so called "2.5G") or with CDMA networks (including "EV-DO" version considered by some, not all people, to be 3G), however there is not even one Windows Mobile phone, neither Pocket PC phone nor Smartphone, that would be working with UMTS networks (the real 3G network based on WCDMA). While previously we presented first info about T-Mobile MDA IV that would be supporting UMTS, it looks like it will be Vodafone VPA IV that will be first Pocket PC phone for UMTS! According to information from Vodafone Germany, during CeBIT 2005, the Vodafone VPA IV PDA phone will be presented and it will be powered by Pocket PC Phone Edition software and will be designed to work with ultra-fast UMTS networks! This information is not yet certain, and may be considered as a rumor, however clearly year 2005 is the year when we will see the first truly 3G phones powered by Windows Mobile software!
