3GSM World Congress 2005 coverage: preview of the conference one day before it starts February 13, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. The conference starts tomorrow, but we have preview of what is coming already today - including photos. The conference and related events take place in the same place where Cannes Film Festival takes place:

... and in luxurious hotels like Carlton, where Microsoft located its "3GSM-related headquarters" (Carlton hotel is the one to the right): 
On the other hand some companies rented yachts (motor boats) to host meetings with customers (operators, etc.) and press there, like for example this yacht of palmOne: 
We have reviewed all yachts of all companies that take place at 3GSM 2005 and this one - of m*forma gaming company that licenses figures for games from Marvel comic company - had the most impressive looks: 
This year there is no fashion show though, that was part a part of 3GSM World Congress 2004 - however organizers (British company informa) say that next year in Barcelona the fashion show will be back. Last year Microsoft had also tent on a beach, however while carrying interviews there was noise of the sea in background and generally it was giving cheap impression - that's why Microsoft's move to a nearby hotel is a correct move! Holding events in a hotel is much more pleasant and professional than in a tent on the beach - as Nokia this year is again doing. Speaking of Nokia: there is no point in hiding it: among journalists coming to 3GSM 2005 the biggest number of important news is expected from Nokia, that will probably announce some new models of phones. After all Nokia is still number one cell phone vendor in the world, although Samsung: 
... will soon overtake Nokia... By the way: above photo of a yacht of m*forma company shows that nowadays in mobile games branded content is extremely important what makes life for small developers almost impossible: after all small developers must create their own characters and they can't afford licensing other games. Conclusions: we don't expect anything grounbreaking in this year's congress but this time we expect to see much more mature and professional approach of Microsoft to cell phone industry - apparently infancy period is over and time of growth and time of Microsoft's well understanding of cell phone industry arrived.
