3GSM World Congress 2005 coverage: PalmSource wants to kill Nokia totally - audio interview with Albert Chu - VP of PalmSource
February 16, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R.

"Nokia must die and we are working on it" (kind-of) says VP of PalmSource:

... in an interview for us. He also comments on various issues related to Microsoft's Windows Mobile... and related to mobile Linux... and related to China and Chinese hardware and software manufacturers... and related to podcasting... and more...

Meet PalmSource - a company that is more anti-Nokia than Microsoft! With help of Palm OS, Linux and Chinese hardware manufacturers PalmSource carries out now massive attack against Nokia!

Read on and tune in to the podcast... your views about cell phone industry will never be the same after you will end listening to this podcast!

Here we present audio interview with Albert Chu, Vice President for business development for PalmSource - makers of Palm OS! Albert Chu reveals that although both Microsoft and PalmSource are fighting with Nokia, PalmSource is going one step further: it is not only targeting Nokia's Symbian based phones but also Nokia's regular non-smartphone phones! Yes, PalmSource wants to kill Nokia totally and for this purpose it is using China based hardware manufacturers and its newly purchased division in China (formerly known as independent company "China Mobilsoft").

PalmSource lately bought 160 people strong Chinese company that produces, among other, Linux based mobile software for various types of cell phones - not just for PDAs! Actually this company is one of main providers of operating systems and software components for regular cell phones for huge Chinese cell phone vendors like ZTE! In other words: PalmSource is not only attacking Symbian (and Microsoft's Windows Mobile) but also Nokia's cheap low-level phones (that are usually based on Nokia's Series 40 embedded OS).

Albert Chu in this interview also points out that Nokia is an evil corporation and that it is confirmed by various facts, for example by the fact that 90% of all Symbian based phones are sold by Nokia or by the fact that Nokia makes Series 60 phones and it also licenses Series 60 to other vendors. In other words: despite having 49% of Symbian Ltd, Nokia is providing 90% of revenues for Symbian Ltd and any hardware manufacturer who is considering to license Symbian must compete with Nokia itself. Any hardware manufacturer that licenses PalmOS (or Windows Mobile for that matter) doesn't have to fear to compete with software makers!

Albert Chu also points out also that PalmSource wanted to license .NET Compact Framework for PalmOS but Microsoft rejected them harshly!

These eyes:

... would never lie, so if he says that Nokia is evil and suspicious, there must be some truth in it.
