New home screen plugin for Microsoft smartphone released: Home Screen Animation Plugin February 16, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. There is no doubt that Microsoft powered cell phones offer much more customization than Symbian phones. One of ways how they achieve it is the home screen technology, that makes it possible to construct home screens by editing of a special XML file or by using tools for it. Apart from static elements each home screen can have also fully dynamic elements - so called "plugins", that are doing something in background and showing it on the home screen! Moreover there is whole subculture of home screen designers for Windows Mobile devices and the things that these people create is nothing but art! Plugins are one of means of expression for these artists! Here comes another plugin for Microsoft smartphone: animation plugin! The plugin is designed to play animations in such a way that the affect on your phone and your phones battery is minimal. The animation player dll is just 50k, and uses a minimal amount of memory when playing back animations. The animation stops playing when the backlight switches off or you switch away from the homescreen. We are providing the mechanism to play animations on your homescreen, and hope to encourage home designers to use the tools to create the homescreens.
