3GSM World Congress 2005 coverage: report from i-mate party about agreement with Skype February 18, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. i-mate was the first company, that signed agreement with Skype to embed Skype client in all i-mate branded Pocket PC phones equipped with Wi-Fi. Later on also BenQ and Motorola signed similar agreements with Skype... The i-mate party that took place on Bellissima yacht and apart from CEO of Skype, Niklas Zennström:

Wow, that was an interesting event! While some "serious" Voice over IP companies are making fun of Skype and predicting that Skype is just a flash in the pan - a fad that will go away soon, we must say that now Skype has deals with i-mate, Motorola and BenQ and probably even more is to come. In fact only built-in Wi-Fi in mobile device provides enough of a speed for Skype to be usable - GPRS is not enough - so interestingly the emergence of Skype as user friendly Voice over IP (believe us, before Skype, using Voice over IP was usually extremely cumbersome) will spark and accelerate development of cell phones with built-in Wi-Fi...
