3GSM World Congress 2005 coverage: interview with John Starkwether from Microsoft

For several years at various pivotal conferences we are interviewing Microsoft managers from Windows Mobile division to get idea what is lately - at given moment - going on with Microsoft powered cell phones in particular or with Microsoft's efforts in cell phone industry generally.
This year, at 3GSM World Congress 2005, in Cannes, France, we have interviewed John Starkwether:

In this interview John Starkwether ...
- points out how decision making about new features takes place, i.e. how hardware
manufacturers and operators are voting on features and that Microsoft doesn't take feedback
about new features from individual customers but exactly from its corporate partners -
companies like hardware manufacturers and operators!
- discusses Windows Mobile Magneto
- explains why some operators have not released update with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
yet
- admits that Windows Mobile doesn't have videotelophony software component and that it is
done by 3rd parties - by manufacturers like HTC, not by Microsoft
- mentions Microsoft's plans regarding voice over IP (including Skype and voice in MSN
Messenger) and presents the fact that some enterprise-internal solutions for Windows Mobile
from Microsoft already have voice over IP functionaltiy! (or will have it very soon)
- outlines general plans of Microsoft in mobility for the next year
- mentions newly announced services framework - new offering for operators
- points out research that proves that Windows Mobile devices raise ARPU better than other
smart devices
- shows the cunning way in which Microsoft provides conformance to all standards, including
OMA
- dicusses blogging and explains why blogging is not quite possible for non-developer issues
in Windows Mobile area; Robert Scoble and "Cluetrain Manifesto" are also discussed
