Vodafone announces VPA IV and VPA compact February 25, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. If the biggest cellular operator (American English: carrier) on this planet - Vodafone - is releasing more and more Pocket PC phones unter its own brand then they must be good. And if at the same time Vodafone is not releasing any Symbian phones under its brand, then they must be lame... Now, after it is clear that all big operators are releasing Pocket PC phones (and only some of them Microsoft Smartphones) we can officially announce: the Pocket PC empire strikes back! VPA IV is a PDA phone with UMTS and based on HTC Universal that we reviewed here. General idea is: mini-notebook with everything inside. Dimensions: 132 x 79 x 22 mm . Powered by 520 MHz processor and equipped with SDIO card slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UMTS, GSM/GPRS. VPA IV will be available commercially this summer. VPA compact is based on HTC Magician construction and is known also as T-Mobile MDA Compact or i-mate JAM. Since Vodafone is operating in various countries in EU we can assume that VPA IV and VPA compact will be available in UK, Germany and other countries... Vodafone also owns shares in various operatos in USA, Japan and elsewhere but these operators usually take their own decisions about handsets.
