Rumor: update with real PUSH EMAIL solution is coming to Microsoft Exchange in Q3 2005 March 10, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. For many years we have been nagging Microsoft about the lack of real e-mail push solution in Microsoft Exchange. See for example our interview with Derek Brown (at ITU conference 2 years ago, in Switzerland), where we asked him about it. It looks that Microsoft is about to cross the last frontier: according to our sources Micorsoft in 3rd quarter 2005 will release update for Microsoft Exchange that will offer full PUSH EMAIL functionality! By now Microsoft Exchange was offering fake PUSH EMAIL functionality because it was working in this way that SMS is being sent from Micosoft Exchange server to a phone and upon reception of this SMS the phone was polling the emails. This solution may be valid in USA where cheap SMS may be economical in usage, but not in EU and not in Asia. Anyway this is not a real PUSH EMAIL solution. There is no need for us to prove, that current Microsoft Exchange doesn't satisfy true "PUSH EMAIL" requirements - as they are achieved by software from RIM Blackberry or by software from Good Technologies - because several hardware license takers: HTC, Motorola and HP are buying PUSH EMAIL solutions from RIM Blackberry and Good - just to satisfy needs of their customers. If Microsoft Exchange would offer real PUSH EMAIL solution, then all those manufacturers and even more operators wouldn't have to buy 3rd party PUSH EMAIL solutions... Conclusion: since our sources are related to Microsoft's close hardware partners, we can assume that this rumor will not be a rumor but it will happen for real. If it will happen then it would mean that not only Windows Mobile phones but also all other cell phone manufacturers, that licensed wireless ActiveSync protocols - will benefit from it. It would therefore not be good news for Windows Mobile only...
