CeBIT 2005 coverage: T-Mobile displaces Orange as key news maker in Windows Mobile phones and shows SDA II music in flesh
March 13, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

While previously Orange was the main news maker in Windows Mobile phones, now it seems that T-Mobile has taken over this role. Orange is owned by France Telecom but it is still headquarted in UK. T-Mobile is headquarted in Germany and is a the second largest operator globally (after Vodafone that is UK headquarted). The fact is that despite having leading position in British market, globally Orange is just one of the smaller operators...

T-Mobile was the first company that announced HTC Universal branded by them as T-Mobile MDA IV. Now, at CeBIT 2005, T-Mobile broke news again, this time by announcing T-Mobile SDA II and T-Mobile SDA II music. This time however T-Mobile also presented T-Mobile SDA II music in flesh - on their at CeBIT 2005! In this news item we present several real high-resolution photos of T-Mobile SDA II music as well as information that we received about it from employees of T-Mobile.

T-Mobile SDA II series (SDA II and SDA II music) bring different keypad, megapixel camera (instead of VGA only) and QVGA display (i.e. 240x320 instead of 176x220). At CeBIT 2005 T-Mobile SDA II music was presented however behind the glass (and without real display but with a paper printout of a display instead):

... and we were told by T-Mobile employees that they are not allowed to show it in action to customers, because the software is not ready. In other words: there was strong hint that T-Mobile SDA II music will be powered by Windows Mobile code name "Magneto"! We didn't get clear answer one way or another, so it is still possible that T-Mobile SDA II music will be released with contemporary version: Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition...

One of major improvements of SDA II is introduction of 1.3 megapixel camera:

... that replaces VGA camera (i.e. 0.3 megapixel)!

Another improvement (or maybe just change?) is the new keypad:

More photos of T-Mobile SDA II music follow.

Interestingly the information that was placed near T-Mobile SDA II music contained some misleading information:

.. because previously T-Mobile announced that SDA II music will have QVGA display! Therefore information about Quad-band feature may also be dubious, but it would be good news for T-Mobile USA customers...
