EzAlarm 1.0 for Windows Mobile Microsoft Smartphone released
March 28, 2005 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Believe it or not but for many people 2nd most important application of Microsoft Smartphone is to use it as alarm clock! EzAlarm is a small utility that makes it faster and more convenient to use your Smartphone as an alarm clock. More information from the developer follows.

EzAlarm is a utility that makes it fast and convenient to use your Smartphone as an alarm clock. It enables you to set or check an alarm using a single key-press or voice tag.

Why you need it

All Smartphone devices have a built-in alarm feature. Although it comes free with the operating system, this feature is incredibly inconvenient to use. Typically you would press Start > More > Settings > More > Date and Time and then scroll down several down lists to activate the alarm or select the time. For people who set different alarms often enough, all this fumbling can get frustrating. What makes things worse is that the Smartphone's time and alarm settings are right next to each other, and both text boxes look identical. That makes it easy to accidentally change your Smartphone's time instead of alarm, especially when you're about to fall asleep. Imagine going to bed thinking you've set an alarm to wake you in time for an important meeting, when in fact you changed your Smartphone's internal clock to an incorrect time! (This actually happened to the developer of EzAlarm, and was a motivation for creating the utility).

Unfortunately there is no built-in way to shorten the task of setting an alarm. That's where EzAlarm comes in.

How it works

EzAlarm has a simple user interface that allows you to change only the current alarm time and status. For your convenience, it also displays the current time, and updates it live while you''re using the program.

EzAlarm sets your Smartphone's built-in alarm, and does not use any proprietary timing or notification system. So, after setting an alarm with EzAlarm, you can verify it using the Date and Time control panel. The notification sound can be set using the Sounds control panel.

Since EzAlarm is a standalone application, you can launch it from the Home screen, program any hotkey, or create a custom voice tag to launch it. Either way you will be able to set the alarm faster and more reliably than you would without EzAlarm.

EzAlarm costs $4.95 and can be purchased here (motricity) or here (Handango).
