New version of Skype client for Pocket PC released: 1.1.0.4 April 02, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. There is no Skype for Symbian, so if you want to use Skype over Wi-Fi in a mobile device, then Pocket PC phone or PDA with Wi-Fi is your only choice!
Below we describe what's new in the new version:
One of new features added is ability to leave messages on the Skype voice mail of the other Skype user, for example to leave us a message just type "msmobiles":
... and tap on the green "Call" button! If you will dial "msmobiles" ID then answering machine (i.e. Skype voicemail) answers, and you can record suggestions and questions to us (to be answered in upcoming podcasts). Apart from ability to leave messages on the voice mail, in this version also dialing out to regular phone numbers (SkypeOut) has been improved and you can also receive phone calls from regular phone network (so called "SkypeIn"). This last version works also fine in Pocket PC devices with VGA resolution. Unfortunately still functionality of Skype for Pocket PC is not 100% covering possibilities of the Skype for Windows XP: for example still listening to messages recorded on Skype voice mail is not possible. Conclusions: the good becomes better, but still there is room for improvement... anyway: Skype now offers full set of features: pure Internet to Internet phone calls, SkypeOut, SkypeIn, Skype VoiceMail... most of them (apart from listening to recorded voice mail messages) available now in Pocket PC ... and the only serious reason for complaints is (sometimes) low quality of phone calls from Skype to regular phone network (phone calls purely over Internet - Skype to Skype - usually offer very high voice quality).
