Neonode releases Neonode N1m phone and adds support for Windows CE 5.0 operating system and the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework

Looks like there is a progress at Neonode - a company that tries to make breakthough with help of cell phone powered with Windows CE and their own layer of applications - without licensing Windows Mobile from Microsoft but just by licensing the core operating system: Windows CE (that also is a core of Windows Mobile platforms). What's new at Neonode?
- web site of Neonode got "global touch", i.e. there is a map of the world and you can select your country of interest. See here. Once you select your country then it appears automatically as pre-selection.
- Neonode adds support for Windows CE 5.0 operating system and the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework:
To promote third party development for the Neonode N1 platform even further, Neonode has released the first mobile in its kind with the Windows CE 5.0 operating system and the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework.
More than 30 new applications has already been developed and adjusted for the Neonode N1 platform. To mention a few, there is a Betaplayer, a media player that supports DivX, a Nintendo emulator and a Gameboy emulator called GnuBoy.
The Neonode upgrade to the Windows CE 5.0 and the introduction of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework enables all Neonode mobiles to use .NET applications.
Thus, Neonode customers get access to a vide variety of applications, developed both by professional developers and non-commercial development communities all over the world.
Besides the basic class library in the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework that makes development uncomplicated and efficient, Neonode has developed a complementary class library for, among others, the patented light beam controlled optical screen, the megapixel camera and network connections. Even more API’s and tools will be released during 2005.
- Neonode releases Neonode N1m phone, that looks exactly the same as N1 but offers additionally megapixel camera (previously VGA), tri-band GSM (previously dual-band) and a vibrator. Still no Bluetooth though. Neonode N1m, with 1GB SD card is available for 499 Euro.
Conclusions: it looks like Neonode is not dead and thanks to adding also .NET support and contemporary version of operating system one gets a phone that will be to satisfy people who don't need compatibility with Pocket PC but would like to have small trendy mobile phone. Neonode phones have optical touch screen and can be used easily with a thumb..
