Keynote speech of Bill Gates from MEDC 2005 : even podcasts were mentioned !

Yes, even word "podcasts" was used in this keynote speech, albeit not by Bill Gates himself but by one of Microsoft employees, who were presenting within frame of this keynote - in short demonstrations - various new capabilities of Windows Mobile and Visual Studio 2005.

Highlights:
  • this keynote took place during MEDC 2005 conference on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, 9-10 a.m. PDT, in Las Vegas, USA
  • not only Windows Mobile but also embedded Windows - Windows CE and Windows XP embedded are discussed
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 is being introduced for the first time. The official release of information about Windows Mobile 5.0 at the website of Microsoft was withhold until this keynote speech
  • in presentations in this keynote speech - presentations made by various Microsoft employees - the HTC Universal Pocket PC phone is used in operation. HTC Universal offers VGA display (640x480 pixels), 3G/UMTS/GSM radio interfaces plus full Qwerty keyboard and built-in Wi-Fi. HTC Universal was presented with Windows Mobile 5.0 running in it.
  • Samsung i300 - a Microsoft Smartphone powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 for smarpthone was also presented. This phone has built-in hard disk of size: 3GB.
  • new fantastic emulators of Windows Mobile have been presented. These emulators emulate not only operating system but also processor - so they are binary compatible with all existing ARM applications ! In other words: you can run binary existing ARM in your PC in an emulator of Windows MObile 5.0 ! This is incredibly important for developers, but may be useful also for end users.
  • new APIs of Windows Mobile 5.0 have been presented in demonstrations. For example using location API in combination with SQL Mobile of Outlook to set appointments from application into Outlook Mobile and further to Outlook in a desktop PC.
