Development kits and documentation for Windows Mobile 5.0 are available online now

Yes! You can now download Windows Mobile SDKs and read online the documentation of Windows Mobile 5.0 for developers. Of course you need also Visual Studio 2005 (now available as Beta 2) that is however not available for download for everybody (only for MSDN subscribers, the cheapest MSDN subscription costs around 1000 USD). However these SDKs include the excellent Windows Mobile 5.0 emulators, that can even run binary native applications...

Some interesting examples from Code Samples, that demontrate new capabilities of Winodws Mobile 5.0 available for developers:
- Cameracapture: Demonstrates the basic video capture functionalities using the native Camera APIs. Captures and encodes a video clip in WMV format. Captures and encodes a still image in jpeg format.
- Bthchat: Demonstrates how to create peer-to-peer communications between two devices using Bluetooth wireless technology.
- Tut02_vertices: Demonstrates the way vertices are transformed (meaning they are already in 2D window coordinates) and lit (meaning we are not using Direct3D Mobile lighting, but are supplying our own colors).
- Cecamera: Take pictures and videos using the native Camera Capture API.
- and many more... (see above documentation link)
Conclusion: with Windows Mobile 5.0 creation of new kind of applications is possible - thanks to new APIs and new development tools (new SDKs + new Visual Studio). Microsoft is delivering on promise and Microsoft's belief that their platforms (like Windows XP or Windows Server) are so popular because their development tools are so good, finds confirmation here and hopefully it will contribute to significant increase in sales of Windows Mobile devices.
