Meet T-Mobile MDA Pro - the phone formerly known as T-Mobile MDA IV June 23, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. T-Mobile has renamed the first 3G/UMTS/W-CDMA phone powered by Windows Mobile!
Now the model name of this phone is T-Mobile MDA Pro! Furthermore interesting question arises: since this is 3G/UMTS phone and such phones require special 3G SIM cards to operate (called "USIM"), will you be able to purchase this phone and use it with your old GSM SIM card? The answer to this question is visible on this picture:
... where we tried to use regular GSM SIM card (here: from O2 UK) in a 3G phone! Unfortunately the phone, despite having also GSM band support, rejected this SIM card, saying "Please insert correct USIM card.". The same may be with T-Mobile MDA Pro (or generally with all HTC Universal models). If this suspicion would be confirmed it would mean that in countries like USA where UMTS/3G is much less popular than in EU and Japan, the HTC Universal would practically have no chances to succeed. It could also strongly influence buying decisions of people in EU, who would have to get new SIM card and thus new phone number - just to use the HTC Universal! Some highlights of T-Mobile MDA Pro:
