Tech Ed Europe 2005 - keynote : Microsoft announces release dates for some major products July 05, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. Today during keynote session of Tech 2005 Europe, Andrew Lees from Microsoft UK:
... apart from giving overview about various Microsoft products also announced that on November 7, 2005, certain Microsoft products will be released (officially! in final, not BETA version):
Yes! Now speculations are over and on November 7, 2005 Microsoft will release among others Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. eLearning for these 2 new products will be also free at Microsoft's eLearning websites till November 7, 2005. As far as Windows Mobile is concerned there was one short demonstration within the frame of keynote (of course Windows Mobile is only tiny part of Microsoft's business and thus of Tech Ed):
This demonstration was carried out by Mike Hall from Microsoft USA:
He presented shortly mainly the new service pack for Microsoft Exchange, that increases security:
... in combination with Windows Mobile 5.0 powered device (here: some unidentified Pocket PC made by Symbol and running Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system):
On photo above you can see a dialog, that appears when you synchronize for the first time a device powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 with an Exchange Server that has new service pack installed. After you click "OK" in this dialog, then security policy defined in MS Exchange for mobile devices starts applying to your device. It means among others, that if you fail 3 times to enter access password to your device properly, then your device will be wiped out completely! This complete wipe out should protect your information -thieves has then no way to access information, that is stored in your device, because this information is erased. This "complete wipe out" was one of things that Mike Hall presented during this keynote session. As entertainment part of the keynote these 4 people:
... were presenting comedy sketches where one of them is manager, another is informationw worker, another is developer and yet another is system administrator. Interestingly they have mentioned in one of their sketches also Pocket PC and smartphone devices! All in all nothing drastically new was presented during this keynote but at least we know now exact release date of Visual Studio 2005, that brings possibility to develop applications for new Windows Mobile 5.0, including utilization of the new fantastic APIs that this platforms brings...
