Handango wants to sell software also for Tablet PC computers - Tablet PC marketplace July 13, 2005 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R. Handango is one of the most evil companies on the market - they are ripping off developers of mobile software very much and maintain semi-monopolistic position as the biggest on-line shop with mobile software for Windows Mobile devices and other mobile platforms. Now they try to expand into Tablet PC software... We advice users of Windows Mobile and Tablet PC not to use Handango if possible! One of developers of Tablet PC software writes: they have a nice catalog of apps for when the shop opens up in a few weeks. I'm sure they are actively going out and seeking the Tablet PC developers because I didn't initiate the conversation with them. got a very prompt and simple answer but the answer was astonishing. They want 40% commission for apps sold through their web site Handango.com, 40%-50% for “value added channels”, and 10%-20% for their commerce engine (basically you sell the app, use Handango as a shopping cart - much like PayPal does for alot less). Why on earth would anyone willingly subject themselves to this? And who does Handango think they are? In the Tablet PC space, they have little relevance and they think they are going to build it by raping ISV's who are already not making enough money because the Tablet PC platform has yet to surge the way we all hope it will someday?? Credit: Josh Einstein. Conclusion: Handango is the worst thing that could happen to mobile software developers. Now Handango tries to apply the same rip-off strategy that they use in area of mobile phones and PDAs also to Tablet PC software. Say NO to Handango! They are one of the main forces that hinder mobile software developers. Industrial practices of Handango are nothing less than robbery. Handango may claim that it uses the money stolen from developers to promote their software, but it is very weak argument - Handango promotes only those developers, who bring most revenues to Handango (i.e. most expensive programs) and we have noticed that lavish money spending takes place at Handango - for example during 3GSM World Congress in France not only Handango was present but their representatives were living in luxurious hotels in Cannes, while our staff due to money saving was living in nearby, cheaper, city of Nice (where hotels are much cheaper).
