Socket Communications launches mini SDIO Wi-Fi card
August 02, 2005 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)] | By Edward J. R.

The new card is smaller but clearly is still protruding (sticking out) because it is needed to have some antenna space for reception:

Unfortunately no drivers for MS Smartphone are available for this card - just for Pocket PC - but since now most smartphones anyway have mini-SD slot not full size SD slot, it is not a problem.

The de facto market leaders in Wi-Fi cards for Windows Mobile are SanDisk and Socket Communications so it is good to learn that one of them is launching mini Wi-Fi card!

Please note: that only Windows Mobile phones and PDAs offer ability to be extended with Wi-Fi cards - in Symbian if given device doesn't have Wi-Fi on board then it is not attachable - never ever. Information from Socket Communications follows.
